A Quick Start Guide to Use EaSecure
EaSecure use strong PKI-grade encryption but is
made extremely easy to setup and use. All you need to do is to open your
first EaSecure message and you will be able to receive highly secure public
key encrypted messages from other users and send EaSecure messages to anyone who
has an email address. The following describes how to obtain and open your first
EaSecure message.
Step 1 -
Receive a one-time-password-protected EaSecure
message (skip this step if you have already received an EaSecure message
from your correspondent recently - within 7 days before the one-time password
expires). You may ask a friend who uses EaSecure to send an EaSecure message to you or enter your email address below
and click "Try It Now" to cause a "Welcome" EaSecure message to be sent to your
email address.
You will receive a one-time-password-protected EaSecure message with an ".eas" attachment and
a separate email message containing the one-time password.
Step 2 -
Download and install the EaSecure Software
(skip this step if the EaSecure software is already installed on your computer).
The EaSecure Standalone Client XP works on
Windows XP or higher with any email client, including web-based emails such as
Yahoo mail, Hotmail, and Gmail. For Windows lower than XP (98, me, 2000), you
should download and install the EaSecure
Standalone Client 98. (EaSecure plug-ins for Outlook 2002 and 2003 and
Outlook Express 6 are also available at
http://www.easecure.com/download.html, which will give you more convenience
if you use these email clients.)
Step 3 -
Open the one-time-password-protected EaSecure
message. First, double-click the
".eas" attachment (or download and open it from a web-based email account). A
dialog box similar to the following will be shown:

Enter
the corresponding one-time password into the above dialog box, click "OK", and
wait for the EaSecure client to generate your public/private keys and contact
the EaSecure server. When it finishes, a dialog box similar to the following
will be shown:

Choose
a password that you can remember but is difficult to guess and type it into the
above dialog box (twice) and click "OK." The EaSecure message will be decrypted
and shown in the EaSecure standalone client (or in an Outlook or Outlook Express
window if you use the EaSecure plug-in).
After
these simple steps, your public/private keys will be established and will be
used to encrypt future EaSecure messages sent to you. All the one-time passwords
sent to your email address will expire and you will not receive one-time
passwords anymore. Instead you can open ALL past and future EaSecure messages
using your own password established above. To open any past and future EaSecure
message, simply double-click the ".eas" attachment (or download and
open it from a web-based email account) and enter your own password
into a dialog box similar to the following:

Now, you can
also send EaSecure messages to anyone who has an email address. If the recipient
is already an EaSecure user, the message will be encrypted by the recipient's
public key. If the recipient is not yet an EaSecure user, the message will be
protected by a one-time password and the recipient can open it with the
procedure described above. After the recipient opens the first EaSecure message,
he or she will automatically become a user and subsequent messages be encrypted
by the recipient's public key.
If you
use the EaSecure standalone client, you can use it to compose and send encrypted
messages. You need to setup the SMTP server before
you can send out EaSecure messages using the standalone client.
If you
use an EaSecure plug-in, you can use your email client (Outlook 2002,2003 or
Outlook Express 6) to compose the messages and send them out by clicking the
"Send EaSecure" button. You do not need to setup the SMTP server if your email
client is already set up to send and receive emails correctly.
