| Delete Key |
There are two reasons why you may want to delete your key.
(A) Your computer will be discarded or used by others (e.g. you have purchased a new computer and will discard the old computer, or you have imported your keys into a public computer and used them on a temporary basis). You want to remove your keys from the computer you will no longer use but you still want to use EaSecure on other computers.
(B) You do not own the email address any more and you want to delete your key to permanently remove your capability of using EaSecure with that email address and allow the new owner of the email address to establish his or her own key.
To delete the key associated with your email address:
(1) Select "EaSecure Key Manager" under the "Tools" menu to start the Key Manager
(2) Select the email address whose key you want to delete and click the
button.
(3) Enter your current password and click the
button.
(4) Select one of the two delete key options and click the
button.
If your reason for deleting the key is reason (A) above, you should select the first option: "Delete the key from this computer only." Before you continue with this option, however, you must make absolutely sure that you have the most up-to-date key on another computer or in a export file. If you are not sure, you should export your keys into an export file before deleting the key. Otherwise, after you deleted a key associated with an email address, you may permanently lose your capability of sending and opening EaSecure messages with that email address.
If your reason for deleting the key is reason (B) above, you should select the second option: "Delete the key from both EaSecure server and this computer." After deleting the key associated with an email address using this option, you will lose your capability of opening and sending EaSecure messages with that email address. The email address will also be "unlocked" so that the new owner of the email address will be able to establish his or her own key associated with that email address. (Otherwise, the EaSecure server will still consider you as the owner of that email address and will prohibit anyone else from establishing a new key or changing the current key for that email address.)
