| Check Key IDs (only available in version 1.0.4 and higher) |
EaSecure Key Manager allows you to check whether an email address has a public key and whether your key on the current computer is most up-to-date. If the email address has a public key, the key IDs (a key ID is a SHA256 hash computed from the key) for both the encryption key and the signing key will be displayed. This allows you and your correspondents to directly verify the key IDs to make absolutely sure an authentic key will be used to encrypt the message.
To check your own key IDs:
(1) Select "EaSecure Key Manger" under the "Tools" menu to start the EaSecure Key Manager.
(2) Select the email address you want to check and then click the
button.
A message box will tell you whether your key on the current computer is most up-to-date and display the key IDs for both your encryption key and your signing key. If you have selected multiple email addresses in step (2), there will be a series of message boxes each displaying the information for one email address.
To check the key IDs of an email address (not necessarily your own):
(1) Select "EaSecure Key Manger" under the "Tools" menu to start the EaSecure Key Manager.
(2) Click the
button
without selecting any email address.
(3) Enter the email address you want to check and then click the
button.
A message box will tell you whether the email address has a public key on the EaSecure Server, and if so, the key IDs for both the encryption key and the signing key will be displayed. You can use this method to check whether the recipient has a public key to determine whether your EaSecure message sent to that recipient will be encrypted by the recipient's public key or protected by a one-time password. You can use this function to make absolutely sure that an authentic key will be used to encrypt the message sent to a recipient by comparing the recipient's key IDs you see and the key IDs the recipient sees on his or her own email address.
